A cracking mix of magic and comedy with a little bit of science thrown in, packaged together with Kevin Quantum’s charismatic irreverence. I loved this show.

Sometimes your magician fraternity can take themselves a little too seriously so it was refreshing to find that Kevin Quantum was nothing like that. Clearly he delights in the tricks he performs but it’s not so much the awe and wonder that he seeks to evoke in his audience, it’s mainly the fun factor.

His show is very big on audience participation and nearly all his tricks involved someone picked at random to be part of the show on stage. Sometimes getting up there can be intimidating but among Kevin’s many talents is his ability to put people at ease and help them to join in the fun whether sitting down or standing in the spotlight.

He is obviously a talented magician but what sets this show apart is his charm and wit.

Some of his stuff is daft, cheeky, impish, designed to put a smile on your face and the thought in your head that ‘hey, this is really silly but what fun’.

The magic covers some of the magician’s staples – card tricks, coin tricks, making things disappear tricks but also plenty of what Kevin calls ‘weird stuff’. I don’t want to give too much away but weird in a nice way. Two words you don’t often hear in the context of magic – hamless ham – might provide a bit of a clue.

Kevin’s pre-magic life was apparently as a physics nerd. You get the feeling that he is still fascinated by the science behind the tricks, but his enthusiasm also suggests he is happy he moved into the world of magic, and I think everyone who witnessed his show with me is glad he made the move too.
