Faulty Towers — The Dining Experience

By Julie Petersen on 10 Feb 2018

The scene is set, we are downstairs at Rigbys Bar, drinks in hand, and Basil barges back and forth through the crowd on seemingly urgent errands.

Bumbling about, the confused but affable waiter Manuel enters and proceeds to clean around the guests. Attempting to take charge and be hospitable Basil tries to direct a confused Manuel through the idiosyncrasies of the English language with predictably hilarious results.

Sybil arrives and Basil cringes. Ducking and diving throughout the evening as he endeavours to avoid the blows from Sybil’s sharp tongue.

Sparking off truly spontaneous laughter while seating the guests, Basil with biting sarcasm and ridicule jumps on any opening from names to audience responses.

“Are you a hobbit?” he asks a smaller statured guest. A truly brilliant and innovative segment of the show.

The laughs flow freely throughout the evening as many memorable moments from the classic ‘Fawlty Towers’ series blend seamlessly with spontaneous improvisation and impromptu responses to patron’s comments and interactions to make this a delightful immersive experience.

As usual a flustered Basil Fawlty leaves political correctness in the wilderness as the highly entertaining finale recreates a typical Basil moment.

The meal, while quite simple, was tasty and enjoyable.

Keep your sense of humour and a truly enjoyable evening to be had by all, especially fans of the television series.
