Crazy Hat Day – Music Fun with Libby Hammer

By Marisa Quinn-Haisu on 18 Feb 2018

I have a very shy, introverted little girl. She’s the sort who is too shy to go into the McDonalds playground on her own and will take your hand and insist you try and squeeze yourself into one of the tunnels with her.

When I took her to see Crazy Hat Day with Libby Hammer she was uncertain and nervous when we stepped into the Ellington Jazz Club. She held my hand and sat snuggled up next to me in the far corner of the room.

When Libby Hammer came out with her band to begin her show Crazy Hat Day I was watching my little girl closely. It took a while but eventually she relaxed and started smiling and then to my astonishment she grabbed my hand and pulled me into the middle of the dance floor so we could dance together.

Crazy Hat Day with Libby Hammer was a fun, whacky jazz concert for kids. The audience was made up of families with young kids. Many of them were wearing their own hand-made crazy hats.

Libby Hammer was a delight with the kids. She bounced out onto the stage with a smile and with two pink bows in her hair. She was backed up by a jazz band that had a grand piano, a double bass and a set of drums in it.

Libby sung a variety of songs from happy, jazzy numbers to waltzes to everything else in between. There was a lot of audience interaction. Libby would ask the audience questions and kids would shout back answers.

Libby also used props to great effect like when she pulled out a box and started putting funny items on her head to use as a hat like a pencil case and a colander.

Crazy Hat Day with Libby Hammer is suitable for children aged 3 to 8. Libby and her band put on a concert that was fun for everyone involved. The adults were finger-snapping and toe tapping away and the children danced up a storm.
