Circus Sonas

Martin and Logy are a colourful pair. The father and son are the stars of the children’s comedy/circus show Circus Sonas. Both with long beards, piercings, tattoos and wearing matching striped tops, knee-length socks and kilts.

When I first saw them the first thing that popped into my mind was I thought they looked like a pair of Scottish Hipster Vikings, though it turns out they’re from Northern Ireland.

Martin and Logy did a good job of charming their audience which was made up of mostly little kids under the age of ten and their parents.

The two of them had wonderful comedic timing and worked the crowd to get lots of laughs like when Martin told those in the front row to watch out because he liked to twirl his kilt a lot.

Circus Sonas had a lot of audience interaction. Martin told all of the kids that when a trick failed, regardless of whose fault it was, that they were all to point at his son Logy and to boo at him.

This happened quite a few times, it got quite a few laughs out of people, and some smiles and head shakes out of Logy. When a trick worked Martin would run up to kids in the front row for high fives and fist bumps.

They started off with some juggling, then moved onto flipping plastic cups into the air and catching them. They dropped some things a few times and I wasn’t sure whether they were doing it for laughs or if their timing was just a bit off.

I found the later half of the show to be more impressive. Martin and Logy moved onto flipping and catching hats really fast to the beat of a drum and then tossed some rings into the air and caught them.

Circus Sonas was not the most impressive circus show that I’ve seen, but it was a wonderful children’s show.
