2 Englishmen and an Aussie

By Lucy Helliwell on 17 Feb 2018

If you’re looking for a bargain, then check out this act at FRINGE WORLD right now – why see one comedian when you can see three?!

The title is slightly misleading in that it was actually an Englishman, an Aussie and a Scotsman. The first comedian was a stand-in for the advertised comic, Terry North. I’ve not seen Terry before so I can’t compare, but his replacement nailed it.

He’s a Scot with a larger than life personality and an afro! He led the way with a steady stream of laughs that warmed up the crowd, setting high expectations for the following act.

The Englishman, Christian Elderfield, is a posh toff with a self confessed air of campness (even though he’s straight).

He was smashing it with a ton of material, so I was surprised when he got frustrated with the audience for being too quiet. With a few one liners and the odd edgy comment, he had the crowd on side and nicely heated the ground for the next act.

The Aussie, Fabien Clark, is the polar opposite to Christian. Whereas Christian is hyperactive and full of beans, Fabien acts like he’s on permanent vacation, super chilled and taking each moment as it comes.

He addressed awkward life situations with creative and totally random analogies that just got better as the act progressed.

It was a mixed crowd of different demographics, but the gags appealed to all – it felt inclusive with friendly banter. Even those ‘picked on’ enjoyed the laugh, including my boyfriend who got a lot of attention for being Welsh.

You’ll find this comedic trio at The Game Sports bar, the arena being a perfectly sized venue – big enough to feel like its the real deal, but small enough to feel like you’re in the middle of the action. 3 shows in 1, bargain!
